G’day everyone,
Today marks the 44th anniversary of Earth Day which began in 1970. Earth Day is about inspiring, teaching and raising awareness of the Earth’s natural environment and what can be done to help sustain it. This year’s theme is all about green cities, which I believe is quite an interesting topic. The green cities campaign was launched in 2013 to help cities from all over the world to be able to reduce their carbon footprint and to become more sustainable in the near future. The campaign aims to focus on three major key factors that relate to most modern cities. The three key factors are: green buildings, transportation and energy.
It is wonderful to know that over 1 billion people celebrate Earth Day each year! I highly recommend that you go and have a look at the official Earth Day Network website where you can find lots of useful information on green cities and sustainability: http://www.earthday.org/greencities/
