G’day everyone,
Here are the top 5 highlights from my garden this past week!
1.This Coleus Lava Rose, Solenostemon scuttelarriodes, has become an instant favourite of mine. The colours and patterns in the foliage are a great example of how plants can be vibrant and colourful without any flowers. Unfortunately, I haven’t managed to get my hands on this particular species of Coleus but it has definitely been added to my wishlist.
- Every year I plant petunias around my garden bed boarders. However, last year I was a little disappointed with thePetunia Devonshire Teathat I planted. They did not perform very well in the ground and I was lucky to get 6 flowers on one plant. So this year I have gone for a favourite of mine that I use a lot at my work in hanging baskets and big display pots. Petunia Purple Craze is a spreading form which will have a total spread of 1 meter. Hopefully this will make it a great ground cover option for the garden beds this year!
- I was given this old cast iron pot by a colleague and thought it could used in an upcoming DIY. Once I clean it up a bit I will be looking forward to transforming it into something new.
- The Camellia Volunteer tree has been flowering non-stop since July! It was planted out near the front of the house where it is exposed to a few hours of hot afternoon sun. I was expecting it to burn during summer last year but it held up against the heat! It has been slow in regards to new growth and hasn’t grown much in height. But it seems to be happy in its current position due to the abundance of flowers!
5.These brilliant flowers belong to a plant called Dahlia Starsister ‘Scarlet Yellow’. This form is a part of the dwarf Dahlia range growing to 35cm tall and 50cm wide. They are great in a hot sunny position and will produce continuous blooms throughout their flowering season.
