Country Farm Perennials is a wholesale grower located in the rolling hills of Gippsland Victoria. They open their gardens to the public once a year for roughly 2 weeks. As you arrive you are welcomed by a classic ‘country’ style garden which follows the driveway to the parking area. There was Rhododendrons which were covered head to toe in large honeycomb shaped blooms which were some of the best examples of these plants I have ever seen!
The ground are extremely beautiful and surprisingly not overly large. But the way the owners have landscaped the gardens is a piece of art! The have used plants which contrast against one another through the pigments shown in their foliage and flowers. Such as Heuchras and Lamiums. The double blue flowers of the Aquilegia were scattered all over the gardens which added a nice ‘pop’ of colour to the vibrant greens of other plants. I walked away from this garden with so many ideas that I want to implement in my own garden.
After walking through the gardens I instantly went back to their shop and purchased a whole bunch of plants! It is very hard to resist when you see plants such as the Bleeding Heart bush, Lamprocapnos spectabilis, thriving in their gardens! The shopping area was set up into categories, for example shade plants, sun loving etc. I also loved the country touch where they chose to use hay bales as a bench for some of the plants to sit on.
I walked away with 4 bags full of new and exciting plants that I can not wait to see thrive in my own garden.
Country Farm Perennials are usually spotted attending all the plant fairs and festivals which are held around Melbourne. So if you do miss the chance to visit you may catch this grower another time at another event. But if you find yourself heading towards the Gippsland region I would highly recommend taking the time to go visit Country Farm Perennials.
Until next time happy gardening! By Bonnie-Marie Hibbs ©BMHPhotographyTheGardener’sNotebook2017
