It has been a while since I last had the opportunity to visit a garden. A few weeks ago I spontaneously jumped in the car, drove 3 hours away and was heading towards Cactus Country! You might have seen this garden on social media or even on television. I first saw Cactus Country on the ABC Gardening Australia and my eyes were glued to the screen. I have been obsessed with these plants for 9 years now and I just had to get to this garden!
“The result of ‘One Man’s Dream’ and a lot of determination” – Cactus Country.
The owners Jim and Julie Halls purchased an old peach orchard farm which didn’t have a single cactus on the property. They bulldozed all the trees to make way for the garden they had always aspired to have. In 1984 an amazing cactus collection was sold to the Halls. They purchased the collection from Mr. Ed Koremer who travelled the globe collecting an assortment of beautiful plants! The gardens started on ½ an acre and now have grown to spread across an astonishing 8 acres!
