Nature’s storyteller
Who is that gardener?
Hi, my name is Bonnie-Marie and I am a qualified Horticulturist. I first started writing blogs and The Gardener’s Notebook website back in early 2012 as a way to express my love for plants, photography and my desire to inspire others to get outside in the garden.
I post multiple blogs that range from plant culture, open gardens (follow me around), weekly highlights (Boots off Sunday), photo of the week (Natures pic), DIY/ How to videos and my podcast called ‘Botanical Creative’ that I co-host with my sister a botanical artist.

My daily lifestyle is spent enjoying the outdoors and family whenever possible. I work as a plant photographer and the head of marketing in one of Australia’s leading plant management companies. I also guest write in magazines, articles and blogs online.
One of my biggest accomplishments to date was producing (making, editing, writing – putting the whole thing together) the Gardenworld Magazine. I have now handed the rails over to the next person as I chase the next chapters in my journey. Watch this space as I am working on something new for you all!

only we can plant the seeds for tomorrow.

More About Me
From the early age of seven, I was fascinated with plants, and my obsession with them began. I started learning what I could about them and studying books, shows and documentaries at the age of eight.
In my early teen years, I studied Certificate two in Horticulture on top of my school studies; it was not long after I knew this was what I wanted to do in life. I made the difficult decision and left school to follow my passion for plants with a Horticultural Retail Nursery Apprenticeship at one of Australia’s leading garden centres. Whilst working full-time, I furthered my studies on top of my Certificate three in Horticulture and started a Diploma of Horticulture. As an apprentice, I was awarded by the Nursery and Garden Industry of Victoria ‘The Apprentice of the Year 2012′.
During my apprenticeship years, I guest appeared on the 3AW gardening program, ‘The Big Backyard’, often to share horticultural knowledge. After three short years, I completed my apprenticeship and diploma studies and was completely qualified at eighteen.

During my time in retail Horticulture, I was the department manager, green life buyer, social media/marketing manager, Gardenworld Ambassador, writer, magazine editor, and publisher. My work gained the attention of Channel 9 Garden Gurus, which I guest wrote for their magazine for three years before joining the presenting team on television. Still to this day, I presenter for the show.
Me today
Adding to my list of new experiences, I placed up the towel for Horticulture Retail. I took the jump and had a slight career change, and I am now working for one of Australia’s leading plant marketing and management companies. I am their lead marketing manager and plant photographer. Whilst still working within television, I find myself loving the new and exciting opportunities within this amazing industry.
The Gardener’s Notebook was established in 2012 as a way for me to share my knowledge, gardening experiences, photography and passion. I love meeting fellow gardeners and sharing tips and tricks. I hope that through this blog, I can inspire you to get outside and grow a plant for the first time and start gardening.

Someone filmed our garden take a look.
That’s awesome! Thanks for the link 😀
I’ve been wanting to upload some photos.
Greetings,
I stumbled upon your website while trying search for any news related to a commercial I wrote, co-directed and starred in called, “The Gardner’s Notebook” for Monrovia plants and was very taken with your site and pictures, very beautiful. I enjoyed it very much and just wanted to share with you that I appreciated what you are doing and hope that you might like this new approach to advertising plants. As a target demographic, if you had any feedback regarding the film, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time,
Jerry

What an impressive CV! Looking forward to following your horticultural adventures. Joanna.
Thank you Joanna, I hope you enjoy what is to come on my blog 🙂
I wish you well in your career, you have made an excellent start. I only wish horticulture had been discussed when I was at school, sadly not.
Thank you very much. During my time at school there was no options for me to go study horticulture. I had to find courses that I could do whilst making my school happy. But it is never to late to learn!
It’s not the learning that bothers me, it’s the fact that I am too old and arthritic to be able to do much in the way of digging or bending. I shall simply enjoy pottering in my new garden and visiting other people’s!
